Summerdaze 2011/12

Summerdaze Festival is a month long fun filled programme of events held in the Queenstown Lakes region running from 31 December to 31 January 2012.

Celebrating its eighth year, Summerdaze has a calendar packed with events for all the community starting with the New Year’s Eve celebrations in Queenstown and Wanaka and featuring music, sport, arts and crafts events reflecting the diversity of people and interests in the region whilst offering locals and visitors fun and free events to participate in during the peak of summer.

The festival programme offers teddy bears picnics for the young ones, skateboarding competitions for the teenagers, creative workshops for the crafty types as well as mountain biking events, triathlons, rodeo, markets, outdoor cinemas and plenty more.

The signature New Year’s Eve Celebrations, on the lakefront in Queenstown and Wanaka, will provide a great line-up of live music including the Crystal Set, Deadlier than the Male, Mercury Crowe and the Station Agents and a dazzling firework display to welcome in 2012.

New to the 2012 calendar is the Queenstown Summerdaze Kite Workshop offering children and adults the opportunity to create their own colourful aircrafts and then watch a spectacular display of kites swimming and swooping in the air in Wanaka. Bring your own and join in the fun. Also new for 2012, discover the art of Chinese Brush painting at one of three workshops held in Arrowtown in celebration of the Chinese New Year.

The entire region reacts to the vibrancy of Summerdaze and encourages participation and for people to get out and about during the summer months. The action packed calendar of events will take participants to the mountains, into the communities and across the region.
