'Bai Hu (the White Tiger of the West)' is one of two exhibitions opening this month at Corban Estate Arts Centre as part of our Matariki celebrations. Artist Dion Hitchens fills two gallery spaces with his exhibition 'Bai Hu', inspired by his Chinese Maori heritage. Bai Hu features pieces that are informed by shadow puppetry and includes sculptural works. In one of the Chinese creation stories, Bai Hu is the guardian of the west pillar that holds up the heavens. Matariki is one of the constellations that represent him. Dion Hitchens will give an artist talk on Saturday 12 July, 11am, and will run a kids workshop on Saturday 19 July, 11am. Bookings are required for the kids workshop: email curator@ceac.org.nz. This exhibition has been made possible with the support of the Asia New Zealand foundation
