Lone Star Wanaka Information

The Lone Star restaurant in Wanaka is the gateway to Mt. Aspiring National Park and one of the most picturesque places in Aotearoa, if not the world.

Surrounded by mountains and nestled beside a rock-climbing wall at 50 Cardrona Valley Road, the Lone Star Wanaka restaurant cuts an imposing, dramatic figure, none more so than after dark when its spectacular lighting renders it a sight to behold. It is one of the most aesthetically impressive Lone Stars to date, and the good folk from Wanaka have been suitably impressed.

Situated a mere 3 minute drive from Wanaka township, our restaurant can comfortably seat 80 guests, while 2 separate function rooms (one upstairs, one down ) will cater for another 160 people. Both rooms have their own bar, and the view from upstairs balcony is breathtaking- the stunning vista is Central Otago at its best- akin to a Graham Sydney painting. Equally as visually stimulating is our outdoor entertainment area where you can also dine and enjoy a drink al fresco, watching aspiring mountaineers take on the climbing wall, while your children (if you have any) can entertain themselves in the playground. Our main bar on the ground floor is well appointed, luxurious and also has an outdoor area in which to relax.

Car-parking is not a problem, and if you don’t want to drive, we offer a courtesy coach to collect your group and deposit you safely home at the conclusion of your evening.

The Lone Star restaurant in Wanaka has to be seen to be believed. Open for dinner 7 days a week, we offer something for everyone. We look forward to the pleasure of your company soon.

We drove over the stunning Crown Range from Queenstown and on the road into Wanaka we passed the Lone Star. Having had a terrible experience at another restaurant in Queenstown the previous evening we were surprised the the children asked to go to the Wanaka Lone Star.
It is situated just out of town, too far to walk really but we noticed they offer a courtesy bus. First impressions were that this is too nice to be a Lone Star. A lovely 2 story building with large balconies offering stunning views to the mountains surrounding. We enjoyed a pre dinner drink in the very classy bar downstairs and were given a table offering views of the rock climbing operation next door. Kids loved it! My wife had the salon fillet which she described as perfectly cooked while I had the"kiwi Joker' which essentially is steak egg and chips. The ever reliable cheesecake finished off the meal. The experience was topped off by some knowledgable and helpful sevice from the waiter. This place is almost too good to be a Lonestar and would be great to have open during the day so that patrons could enjoy the exceptional outside areas.
My only concern about the Lonestars is that they are now getting very expensive with only 3 mains being below $30.00. For instance my main, the 'Kiwi joker' was $35.00 which is a lot for what the meal was.
If you are in Wanaka go to the Lone Star there, it is very good.
