It was a good movie, but I felt a bit disturbed by a particular scene. It is definately not a feel-good-movie...
I was not expecting great things from the film as I had just finished reading all three books which had me enthralled. I came out of the cinema suitably impressed. Sure, for die hard fans of the book a few things were amiss (wont go into details for people who are inspired to read the books after watching the film), but overall a fantastic suspense/drama filmed to express the dark storyline and complexity of the characters. Great monies worth at over 2 hours. Looking forward to the second film 'The girl who played with Fire'.
I hadn't read any of Stieg Larson's books before watching the film, and asked the friend I went to see the movie with (along with another unfamiliar with the story) not to tell. So, I enjoyed the movie fresh and without any preconceived notions of how it would be. That said, I thought it was excellent. Brutal, uncomfortable in places, but dark, suspenseful and quite satisfying, and strangely intimate and hopeful. I will look forward to seeing future films from the series (my friend tells me this film sets up things not so apparent in the first book, as background for the second story).
Swedish, with English subtitles.
