I went into this movie not knowing anything other than the title. I had no expectations and an open mind.
The first thing you notice about this movie is how well Owen Wilson fills Woody Allen's shoes. He takes on the subtle nuances, the style, the almost comical unease as if he were the man himself. This movie truly gave him a chance to shine.
The premise of the movie itself is entertaining. A man lost in his own life, longing for the heyday of Paris in the 1920's suddenly finds himself transported back in time every evening at the stroke of midnight. He goes along with it almost in a dream state, rubbing shoulders with his literary heroes and notable characters of the era, initially in disbelief. He meets and almost falls in love and soon comes to realise that he's not the only one pining for a lost era.
His modern day life starts to fray and unravel at the scenes as he struggles with the duality of the two lives he leads but as he grows through his experience he comes to realise that the modern life he lives is not the one he chose and decides on drastic change by following his dreams of living in Paris.
There is some wonderful comedy spun into this movie with a brilliant ensemble cast. I didn't doubt for a second that this was a Woody Allen movie but I was pleasantly surprised by just how well it was executed.
If you're looking for a light hearted whimsical romantic comedy where the romance is more centered on a city than a person then this is the movie for you.
Give it a chance, you won't be disappointed.

Woody Allen back on top form but yes, Paris is the real winner - what a shame it's 24hrs flight away!! We certainly fell back in love with Paris, even when it's raining!!

The real star of this film was Paris! I got caught up in the whole romance of this film and left the picture theatre with a smile on my face.

I really enjoyed Midnight in Paris - it is a gorgeous little piece of escapism that had me smiling the whole way through. The scenery was beautiful, as were the costumes, and the cast was fantastic.
